Holiday Gift Guide!

The turkey is roasting, the tree may be up (if you start celebrations before Thanksgiving, hehe), and Starbucks has had the holiday cups out for weeks already. Let me help you take some stress off of buying gifts for the little ones in your life. Check out this gift guide to find developmentally supportive toys—each photo is linked right to the item!

I have listed the toys in categories divided up into months, but as we know, age-related milestones are not inclusive! Please choose the toys that are most appropriate for you child, regardless of their age. I have included a wide range of prices for the gifts to accommodate any budget! For items less than $20 you will see $, for items $20-50 is $$, $50+ is $$$ to help guide you.

A note about representation and inclusivity: when I was searching for toys to choose for the gift guide, I was disappointed by the lack of diversity in race, ethnicity, and disability represented in the models. BebePT aims to be a fully inclusive space, and I hope that in the near future, toy companies will follow suit.

0-6 months

For this age group, we like to focus on age-appropriate sensory experiences, supportive positioning options (like the Moby wrap), encouraging floor time (with this play mat), and promoting tummy time (with the water mat!). I highly recommend the Curious Baby Activity Cards for soooo many developmental play ideas!

6-12 months

Now that baby is a bit more mobile, let’s keep them moving and grooving! Crawling and walking may start during this time period, and it’s a good time to challenge those fine motor and cognitive skills with toys like blocks, stacking toys, and shape sorters!

1-3 years

Bebe is a bit bigger now, so we can challenge cognitive, motor, and play skills with some fun toys! The Bilibo bucket and Rody horse help provide vestibular input, several other items encourage communication and problem-solving, and there are some fun sensory toys as well. Check them out!

3 years +

This is a wider age group, so the options here are more varied. This is a time of growth and learning for young’uns, so these items aim to support their ongoing development. See toys to work on jumping, hoopin’, slidin’, and sensory experiences. There are a few adaptive toys listed here too, but talk to your PT about how to adapt these other items to your child’s needs!

TL;DR

  • The holidays are here, in case you aren’t already blasting holiday music like most of us ! ;)

  • This holiday gift guide is meant to provide developmentally supportive items for littles.

  • Items are divided up into age ranges, but as we know, milestones are not inclusive, so choose the items that are developmentally appropriate for the little ones in your life!

  • I tried to offer a range of prices to fit any budget. Items <$20 are indicated with $, items $20-50 are $$, and items $50+ are $$$ for reference.
